I was laid off due to bad economy and financial mismanagement at my organization. I am conflicted as to whether I should allow this information to be known, since there is no upside- you either suffer rejection due to prejudice, or you get a “low ball” offer. No matter how open minded an employer might say they are to the “laid off”, I sense prejudice. Do I hire potential employee A, who has a job so is applying for the “right reason”, or employee B who is applying because they are desperate for a job. I say “stretch the truth”. How many employers stretch the truth when presenting their positions or when they are going after contracts ? No, life isn’t fair.

Excellent post!

The crux of this article is that *following-up* generates the best probability for success. I can't believe I haven't written about this yet.

I haven't read "What color is your parachute" yet because I thought it was some kind of poorly written self-help book. I'll have to check it out now that it's got a celebrity endorsement! (that'd be you

How odd that I published an article on my own blog today, titled "<a href="http://yourfinishrichplan.com/blog/2008/04/08/6-assistance-options-if-youre-unemployed/" rel="nofollow">
6 Assistance Options If You're Unemployed</a>"!

I think that it's a great complement to your post, in that it provides actual options people can act on, on top of your great morale boosting suggestions.

I will make sure I update my post and link back to your article
