Tipd 2.0 Launches Today

Tipd 2.0 launches today with some new features that both readers and bloggers should find interesting and fun. Tipd is a social media news site for financial and personal finance news and a site I visit every morning to see if there’s breaking news I might be missing. Bargaineering.com is a Tipd launch partner and I’m responsible for blogger outreach.

Why Readers Should Check It Out

I’ve always been a fan of social news sites because it lets people popularize the news that they find interesting, rather than the big brands getting to be gatekeepers and controlling the message. That’s the reason why sites like Digg and reddit are popular and that’s why Tipd is popular for financial news, people want to know what their peers find interesting and social news sites offer that.

The big hurdle every social news site has to overcome is inertia and I think Tipd has gotten past that. With over two thousand published stories, 6600+ users (as of yesterday afternoon), Tipd has gotten over that first hurdle. As the months, it’ll only get larger and only get better at discovering news that’s interesting, rather than news that CNN Money finds interesting.

The development team has introduced SocialTickers, which is a feature where you can enter in a stock ticker and it gives you your standard stock data plus mentions in blog posts, tweets, del.icio.us bookmarks, etc. It’s a tremendous amount information and it’s all aggregated in one place, something I don’t think anyone else offers. If you haven’t checked out Tipd in a while, give it a look

Why Bloggers Should Use It

Tipd is getting bigger and bloggers who have compelling content can leverage it to get more exposure. The site traffic has doubled from 100,000 to 200,000 pageviews and a front page story can get close to three hundred visitors that are interested in your story. Tipd is also very democratic, it’s not dominated by a small cabal of voters, just look at the sites in the Tip’d Top 100. You have big brands like Kiplinger and the NY Times next to blogs like MoneyNing.com, Investing-school.com, and ObliviousInvestor.com.

Lastly, if there’s something you want me to pass along to the Tipd team, please leave a comment or email me directly.

  1. Thanks for your work spreading the word about Tipd, Jim. :)

And for any other bloggers: He’s right. Tipd has been very helpful for gaining readership to my blog. I’d definitely suggest trying it out if you haven’t yet.

Tipd is a good site that is on the edge of really making it. I find their lack of (or broad) categories for submissions a little displeasing.

I have submitted a few stories and have yet to get one of them tip’d. I’m trying to tell myself it is a wicked error on their part and not a smack in the face of my content :)
