I'd be happier if all transaction required a pin confirmation or hardware dongle. That way I'd have one option for shopping in person and another for online, but neither would be useable without either my physical presence or my implicit knowledge. Though on the other hand, I'm not really a worrier. If the problem was truly bad, the credit card companies would be much more on top of this. It's my social security information that i really don't want to lifted. Credit card number theft - an annoyance -identity theft now that a major pain in the ass. It's still not clear to me exactly what data was compromised.
