I have found the service at Zecco to be fine, though they are a little slow in getting to the matter at hand. I found Tradeking to be awful, smug and terrible when it came to asking them to review a possible error on their part. I am an active trader and I would never again use Tradeking.

I wanted to open an account at Tradeking but unfortunately, they discriminate non-US Citizen. First time in 13 years that I have been a Resident of USA and maried to an US citizen that I face this stupidity. I am from France but if I was a French polynesian or other french territories, they would!!! Lake of information and they would not try to get the right information.
Well, I work and pay my tax in USA since 13 years, I opened any kind of accounts else where but TradeKing WON'T!!! Sorry but when I get my USA citizenship next month, they won't see a dime from me!

I have not been trading long, and Zecco is the only company I have used. Also, I have never called or emailed Customer Service because I haven't had any problems yet. But I like a couple of things about Zecco.

1. The "Share" community has a lot of smart traders on it who are generous with advice. Rudeness doesn't seem to be tolerated, and overall the exchanges are civilized, intelligent , and helpful.

2. Zecco is the best spot I have found for trading Penny and other small and micro-cap stocks, mainly because (unlike TradeKing and others) they do not add a (punitive) surcharge on large share orders or stocks below a dollar.

Is Zecco perfect? No. But it's an inexpensive, friendly place to do basic trading. If they'd just lose the awful purple color scheme, I'd quit complaining completely.

I have had accounts at both Zecco and Tradeking. Zecco did not answer their phones, I dropped them. I was good with Tradeking but then Optionshouse opened. $2.95 per stock trade and more importantly $9.95 flat fee for options trades. I will save thousands of dollars in commissions this year using Optionshouse because they do not have a volume charge on options. Options are supposed to be Tradeking's specialty by the way.

Customer service was even between Tradeking and Optionshouse. They both use Legent clearing and Maxit for tax records. My call--Optionshouse by a knockout!

I went with OptionsHouse. $2.95 stock trades, and flat $9.99 options trades (no per-contract fee). And free MaxIt. No customer service woes so far...

I've been doing the research on this myself and came across sogotrade.com which is charging $3.50/trade and currently offering 100 free trades or $100 for transferring your account worth $25k+ from another broker.
