I think the problem is that banks are so interrelated that the failure of one would result in the cascading failure of many, which would do severe harm to our financial system as a whole.

I wonder, why they (American life) don’t consider the third possibility – the bank is bankrupt, the government doesn’t buy anything, the bank creditors get some part of their deposits after assets liquidation.
In fact it is the fist natural way to discuss, before involving different schemes of government help.

I always enjoy this groups’ finance explanation shows. I thought the most interesting thing was that most banks really shouldn’t be LOANING the TARP money, that they need the money in their capital.
