There is no point of buying it - even if I really wanted to spend a large part of my savings on any one thing: 1) unless you are invited to fancy parties, there is no place to wear such a necklace. OK, you can wear it to maybe opera or Broadway, but most people there don't know you and don't care what you wear 2) unless you are a movie star or super rich none of your friends is going to believe you it is real so they'll think you are wearing cubic zirconia. 3) you'd be afraid to be seen an it. You'll need to buy insurance for it, and then you'll probably have to keep it in a safe deposit box. Spending a lot of money to make one's safe deposit box look pretty doesn't seem like fun. But... After I look at more expensive things that I either cannot afford or that cost more than I want to spend, I loose interest in buying cheaper things - they just don't look the same. So I end up not buying anything at all which results in not spending any money at all. For example, for the moment I would like to have long dangling diamond earrings, but I don't want to spend more than $500 on them. The ones I like cost a few thousand, but I don't feel like spending that much. The ones I could buy on eBay for $500-600 seem too short or too small. So I don't buy anything at all and save $500.
