lol Woohoo, where do I sign up for this lotto? Who benefitted from this incredible windfall??? Oh, that's right... no one did, unless you believe Iraq and Afghanistan are now peaceful prosperous democracies.

You're right too, that number truly takes your breath away. We are way off track and this recession has helped to highlight the problems, I hope our political and business leaders are paying attention. It's definitely not too late to right the ship but we need some leadership in our government and major corporations and thrift and saving among our citizens. I'm personally an optimist so I'll hope that Americans come together the way we tend to do when the chips are down.

Great post, hope a lot of people read it and get pissed at the reckless and careless behavior that deficit represents.

Cheers!

Yeah...kind of. It's a big number, but I feel so disconnected from the federal budget. It's so incredibly huge that it's hard to even comprehend it, and it's not like your personal budget where you can actually feel it when you have a deficit. I think we all know that it's not good, but it has no impact for us on a daily basis. We just have the general feeling that "this can't be good," and it validates the pervasive feeling that our country isn't heading in the right direction. I think this disconnect (and the blissful ignorance of the country in general) is what allows Congress and the President to get away with outrageous spending habits.
