Wisdom Teeth Extraction - What To Expect
My girlfriend lovingly has made me lots of rice pudding and I’ve lovingly heated up canned soup and I’ve begrudgingly ate both for the last three days after getting two wisdom teeth removed three days ago. Honestly, it hasn’t been that terrible because I only had two removed (instead of all four), but it’s still very uncomfortable. Just to give all you folks who have never experienced this a taste of what you can expect… read the time line for the last three days.
10:15am: I go under. The process was painless… they stuck an IV into my left arm right into my vein, the same vein I use to donate my blood, and it’s quite a fatty so there aren’t any problems there. I try to stay conscious as long as I can so I can fully feel like what it’s like to go under since it’s my first time. They put a pulse thing on my finger, strap on blood pressure stuff to my right arm, and the oral surgeon tells me to pick out a nice dream. I pick the nice one about how my girlfriend and I went on a cruise to the West Caribbean a few years ago. Then I pick out the one with the other girlfriend (aaaah just kidding). I would’ve thought of sugar-plum fairies but I have no idea what they look like. They strap on a few other things, put some stuff on my face, and I feel the same exact sensation I felt when I (allegedly) puked all over a mall in Cancun my freshman year. Everything gets all bright and I black out.
10:xxam: I’m half awake somehow, feeling the dentist drilling apart the left tooth and pulling out the pieces. It doesn’t hurt and I know what’s going on so I don’t freak out or anything. I remember my friend said this happened to him so I just sort of pretend everything’s cool. I open my eyes, look at the surgeon, look around, wonder if he cares that my eyes are open, and the next thing I know we’re done.
10:45am: I’m sitting in a chair waiting for my girlfriend to come back with two pieces of gauze in my mouth that hurt like hell. The nurse hands me two containers of pills, amoxicillin and vicodin, and tells me not to spit. I promptly spit out blood into the toilet and she scolds me. My girlfriend comes back and we drive home. I know why they say not to drive because I feel ridiculously drunk, like twelve beers in two hours type drunk, except it’s light out (not that that’s never happened before) and it’s before noon (also, not like that’s not happened before, I did attend 4+ years of higher education after all).
11am: I eat the pills, lie in bed, PTFO.
6pm: Girlfriend wakes me up, I eat more pills and some rice pudding. It’s good since I haven’t eaten since 6pm the day before (rules of anesthesia, no eating). It’s also good because it’s the first time I’ve had it in about ten years.
+1 day, 7am: I wake up for work feeling pretty good. My girlfriend is apprehensive about me driving to work since the rule is no driving within 24 hours but I feel good.
+1 day, 8am: I sit at work, groggy from the vicodin, the world is a blur around me. I feel absolutely and entirely… useless.
+1 day, 10am: I realize I can’t do anything and I’d be better off sleeping. I manage the drive home without incident. I sleep for many many hours.
+1 day, 5:59pm: At some point my girlfriend asks me if I asked for my two wisdom teeth. I mention to her that I was on drugs and was thinking about how I was going to stop the Joker and the Penguin from destroying Gotham tonight, especially if I can’t drive the Batmobile for 24 hours. She realizes that I’m on drugs and thus not in the full frame of mind to actually ask for my teeth back, let alone realize I’m not Batman.
+1 day, 6pm: I’ve just slept 8 hours a mere 2 hours after sleeping like a million hours. I eat some more rice pudding, which is still tasty, and soup but girlfriend is nowhere to be found. I realize she works 2nd shift so she’s doing crazy stuff in a biosuit. I think I fiddle around online for a few hours, play cards online, then pass out at around 11pm. Somewhere in there I eat ice cream.
+2 days, 7am (today): I really feel pretty good now and I have a great productive day at work. I still look like a chipmunk, my girlfriend mentions this to me, and my friends still ask me if I want to go grab a hamburger or a beer (while I secret vow to crazy glue their phones to their faces) but otherwise it’s a regular day. I tried to eat a shrimp salad croissant sandwich at a meeting today… it was like trying to put a wet dog in a bathtub (messy and I looked silly) and generally a bad idea.
+2 days, 8pm: I eat some soup. Rice pudding is on holiday tonight. I skip the ice cream, wouldn’t want all those empty calories!
+2 days, 11am: Right before I’m about to go to bed, my nose starts to bleed (I have had nose bleeding problems, it’s from my days as a numchuck-wielding barenuckle boxer) but it goes into my mouth and I think my stitches have busted or something. I managed to figure out it’s just my nose, stop panicking, and fix the situation. I eat more pills and I’m ready for bed and ready for all this to be over. Soon.

I had mine taken out a year ago and I really don’t find it to be a big deal. I don’t remember much pain, even. Just went to the doctor, dozed off, woke up with it done, and then just had to be careful what I ate for a week or so. Glad it’s behind me!
It all depends on whether the teeth are still in the gums or if they’ve erupted. One of mine was partially in and it was a simple slice and yank job. The other tooth was still hiding and the doc had to slice, drill, shatter, and yank piece by piece - so it was a little rougher.
Oh you bastards and your simple operations. I think I will dedicate this to all of those, like me, that had impactive wisdom teeth surgury. My case was the 3rd worst situation: i had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed, two of which were impactive (horizontal and touching the other molar). (The only worst situation being all four teeth being impactive. Anyway I will go through my timeline.
9:00AM - Arrive at appointment time
10:00AM - Doctor finally arrives and sticks me full of needles (10 needles)
11:00AM - I finish my surgery which consited with the doctor using various guardening and woodshop tools like a pick, a drill, and for some reason a blunt screwdriver.
11:10AM - Picking up soup, mashpotatoes, and most importatly the drugs, all the while with ice on my cheeks.
11:30AM - take drugs and put gauzes in my mouth to stop the bleeding
4:00PM - Bleeding finally stops
4:30PM - Bleeding starts up again
5:30PM - Bleeding gets better and food is ingested for the 1st time of the day.
6:30PM - peace and quiet as I rest
7:30PM - Bleeding comes back with a vengance (seriously I was worried, pure dark red blood and lots of it)
11:15PM - Bitching on this site with a moist tea bag in my mouth because i guess the chemicals in it helps blood clotting.
11:30PM - Now. Finishing up my bitching that wasted some time as I try not to spit out the tea bag rapped in the gauze.
It’s been in there for an our but i think i’ll keep it in for another halp hour just to be sure. For those that have had impactive surgery and are reading this…
I feel for you.
Andy, hopefully you won’t get a dry socket.
thanks for the advice - I had my WT’s pulled on 1/2/06 at noon (two days ago, now) and so far so good (that is, unless I just jinxed it) - they knocked me out and the next thing I knew I was on my way in half an hour - no drilling, chiseling, chipping, gnawing, blunt-screwdrivering or anything like that as far as I could tell - I’m 29 so for my age I guess it went pretty well - I clotted right up and was blood free by 6PM or so - aside from my girlfriend (who insisted that she was eating normally the night of her wisdom teeth extraction) trying to forcefeed me french fries and grilled cheese sandwiches that night (which I politely declined), all was well - I’ve had no swelling, just a touch of soreness around the extraction sites and haven’t had a need to pop a single pill - I have been taking it VERY easy with eating and so far have not anything more solid than a little bit of cut-up spaghetti last night - it’s been mostly jello and slimfast and that seems to be getting me by - I’m probably pretty close to a best-case scenario for my age, so if you’re an old bastard like me, don’t worry about it too much - good luck - I’ll see what the following weeks bring
Well I got surgury at 11 am this morning. I don’t remember anything during the surgury, or after. All I remember is waking up at home. It hurts pretty bad though, I only got my 2 lowers done. Maybe I am a wimp, but this does not feel good. I haven’t eaten anything yet. My husband just went to get me some mashed potatoes and mac and cheese from KFC. But I am scared to eat…Isn’t it gonna hurt reallllly bad?? Well time to eat. Bye
I’m 19 years old and I got all of mine cut out, 2 of which were impacted, yesterday at 1 pm. Today its been good the worst pain was the drive home because I live about an hour away from the surgeon and they didn’t give me any pain med for the trip home. But all in all I havn’t gotten a dry socket yet and have been eating lots of Chef Boyardees Cheese Ravioli, I dont have to chew it…lol. Nesquick and Ice Cream feel amazing as well. I’m going to attempt to light a cig shortly to see how it feels…
I had all four of my wisdom teeth extracted on August 22nd. I am 36 - and my WT’s didn’t even start growing until I was about 26!
My dentist doesn’t provide anasthesia, so I had to rely on nitrous (laughing gas). Unfortunately, my extraction took TWO frickin’ hours. At first, they couldn’t get me numb around my lower left WT. Took five tries, with numerous shots of novacain. Then, I had two monster roots that had hooked. They had to stop in between the cracking, cranking, chiseling, and buzz-sawing….two take two sets of x-rays.
All of this while I am still awake! Fortunately the laughing gas made me not care… much. But I still was coherent enough to feel pain when they ventured into areas that hadn’t numbed up yet!
At any rate, two hours later, all four wisdom teeth were gone. They packed me with cotton, gave me a vicodin prescription, and sent me on my way.
I have actually faired pretty well in the recovery. I’ve been VERY careful, as I did not want dry socket.
My tips are:
1. Listen to them and don’t spit, don’t cough, try not to sneeze, and don’t drink through a straw! I drank liquids very, very carefully for the first three days.
2. I took 600mg’s of Ibuprofen the night before the surgery, and 800mg’s that morning. I had very little to no swelling whatsoever…with a massively difficult extraction! You could hardly tell by looking at me that anything had been done. Also - I stuck with the ibuprofen, and never had to take the vicodin.
3. REST! Stay at home for as many days as possible… watch movies, sleep, read books… just stay off your feet.
4. Let salt water ‘roll’ around in your mouth very carefully, a couple of times a day. It really does help the raw feeling in your mouth.
5. Don’t fret if you see ‘gigantic holes’ where your teeth were. It doesn’t automatically mean you have dry socket.
You are supposed to have big holes there.
6. Make sure not to eat or drink anything hot in the first few days. I ate so much ice cream I actually got sick of it. lol
It is exactly one week since I had my teeth out. I ate my first solid food tonight, and I’m finally not paranoid about how I drink things. I’m feeling great, and am glad the whole thing is over!
I am 18 and got all 4 of my wisdom teeth out exactly one week ago. All for of them were impacted, one of them was erupted as well. The surgery itself went well, as they gave me laughing gas and anasthesia. I slept through most of the procedure, except for when they were pulling a bottom tooth out and hit a part that wasn’t numb. They gave me a prescription for Percocet but they didn’t help for the pain so much as make me sleepy so I went to ibuprofen for help. 800 mg took most of the ache away. Eating food like soup and mashed potatoes is the way to go. If you want to eat noodles make sure to make them very soft, and cut up the long ones.
Today I noticed some bleeding, which is abnormal since I clotted up fairly well the day of my surgery. However, I started smoking again recently. I am trying the teabag trick as I type right now, and tomorrow is my check-up schedule so we will see how it goes.
I got the four out friday. the 2 in the mandible were impacted and the top 2 had erupted. They didn’t knock me out and decided to give me instructions as to care, right before the yanked my last one on the lower right (the stuborn little thing) lol. I’m on Vicondin and it’s day 3 which as far as swelling this has been the worst day. My bottom right socket is bleeding slightly again i think which probably isn’t a good sign. I can’t get my teeth back together i think because of the swelling and I have a slight pain that extends from my teeth and slightly into my ear. lol probably from all this talk of dry socket. anyway hopefully tomorrow will be a much better day if not I’ll probably not be a very pleasent person to be around. but all in all I have been to effected by it other then I’ve had a craving for pizza.
I had all four taken out 1 week again. Like most people, I was quite scared about the whole process. Pre op, post op. What will I feel, how bad would I feel it. I guess the worst part of it all, is the slow process of healing. For others it may be super quick, however for me I still have to chew slowly and on soft foods.
It really isn’t that bad. Just a sore, stiff jaw and big holes in your mouth that look like dark tunnels.
Can’t wait to feel 100% again. Shouldn’t be too far down the track. Good thing is, the worst part is over…and it aint that bad!

Had part of one pulled out today in Korea. The dentist used local anesthetic. Half way through he decided that the job was too tough for him so he told me to go to a hospital. Didn’t know anything about not eating hot food. I had a few cups of coffee today. Now my nose is bleeding.
I went to the dentist and he pulled out my bottom left wisdom tooth and the top right one. I went in and the doctor gave me a shot(I think) to numb my gums and make the procedure more comfortable for me. Anyways, when my gums were numb he came in and put my head back and started the extraction. He first started with the lower left one and he started with a drill. He drilled it pretty hard and then he got this tool which looked like some wire cutters and I heard a LOUD crack and the tooth broke into pieces. After that he pulled out the rest of the tooh. Finally he started on the top left one which he simply pulled out. The whole thing took about 2 minutes and he wrote me a prescription for hydrocodone (vicadin) and etodolac. My bottom left gum still hurts like crazy after two weeks! Thank god for the meds but Im wondering if this is normal should I still be in pain? I”ll just have to ask my dentist when the meds run out. \
My daughter’s boyfriend had his wisdom (4) teeth surgery rescheduled three times by his dentist because he was not prepared. For example,
first visit, he did not study the x-rays, second visit, he’s did not give the right amount of whatever numbs the pain and he felt the pain, so the dentist did not stopped the process. The third visit his assistant did not order the anesthetic. My daughter was very concerned and as a parent we also were. Her boyfriends parents also were as concerned. I wanted to get involved by offering him my dentist for advice, however, my daughter said her boyfriend already rescheduled the next appointment and that we should not get involved. The dentist has 50 yrs. experience in this kind of surgery and I’m just wondering why he is not effecient?
So today is Thursday, and one week ago today 2 hours ago, I had my wisdom teeth removed. All 4, all were emerged and had been emerged for at least the last 5 years. 3 never bugged me, one had a cavity, but my teeth are a bit overcrowded and the dentist told me to remove them all would be better for me if I wanted to get braces later. So I found an oral surgeon covered under my dental plan, a guy who has done nothing but oral surgery for about 100 years, and I thought after the meet and greet that everything would be fine. After all, in my lifetime, I’ve had a shattered foot, a broken leg, a broken nose, I’ve been shot with adrenaline through the heart and even had surgery a few years back for cervical cancer, and was almost killed in a car accident by a drunk driver-and none of that ever was enough to put me down for more than a few days, so I thought this would be no problem.
Boy was I wrong.
DAY 1
He put me under at 8:30am and I was walking out the door by 9:15am. I was bleeding like crazy and there were no stitches.
After the numbing wore off I was in so much pain I had to double my dosage of codeine, and double the gauze in my mouth because the bleeding was so bad.
I spent the first day sleeping with ice packs.
DAY 2
Thought everything was fine. Pain not so bad. Thinking it’s going ok. Had a full appetite but would only eat soft foods.
DAY 3
Pain a little worse in the gums, swelling going down some.
DAY 4
Pain a lot worse in gums..I can now feel way down deep in my jaw where they yanked these suckers out. Like feeling the nerve parts.
DAY 5
Called into work, pain is horrible, go back to oral surgeon to find out if I have an infection. Nope, just had really long roots. He pokes gauze wrapped in an antibacterial medicine in my gums and asks me to come back next day.
DAY 6
Go to work, take the ice packs and the IB Profin-and just about die in the process. Lots of pain-1st day without meds. These gauze things in my mouth really don’t feel great. Talking to people is making it worse. Leave early and go back to oral surgeon. He takes out gauze and tells me he can’t understand the measure of pain I’m in because he’s not me.
DAY 7
Wed-busiest day at work. Have to get on the phones..have to talk to people.
Have an ice pack on my face the whole time. By noon just about to fall over and die from pain. Go to lunch, grab my codeine, come back, everything is fine, hardly feel anything and can now talk away. By the time I get someone to take me home, it’s wore off, and I am in nothing but pure pain. I don’t think talking was a good idea.
DAY 8
I’ve called in again. I’ve lost 10 pounds, I can’t eat-barely slept in a week, I think I might permanently glue the ice packs to my face. I am so sore that it feels like someone knocked my whole face into a desk…my face is still bloated like a chipmunk.
I guess the point of this is to get your teeth removed early..and don’t trust anyone that doesn’t give you a lot of information and doesn’t sympathize with your needs…or someone who pulls out 4 wisdom teeth that had really long roots out in less than 45 min…obviously the schmuck wasn’t gentle. I was a bit hasty with my decision by not investigating this guy first because of the cavity-and now I’m paying the price, literally-because I’m having to take all of this time off of work.
This is surgery, and I tend to forget that-but I don’t think I should be in this much pain still. If you are about to do this try to investigate your doctor-follow your gut,and actually make sure you see someone that has the time for you and the time to inform you about the process.
So just an update..my wisdom teeth removal took 1 week and 3 days before I could eat real solid food and 2 weeks to stop hurting.
I got my WT out two days ago all 4 impacted im 15 surgery was fine riped open a hole no bleeding though feel great
HELP! I am in serious agony. Had all 4 taken out under general anaesthetic on Wednesday and things have just got progressively worse. It seemed on the night and the day after that all would be fine but now on day 4, I am crying almost constantly and it hurts from deep down in my gum, down my neck right up to my eye and in my ear. I haven’t been able to eat very well and because of this my co-codamol makes me very spacey and nauseous. The main problems are on my left side - the two lower ones were impacted and horizontal, they told me I would have to have some bone removed to get to them. I thought the pain I was in from these teeth before the op was bad but had I been warned before I would never have gone through with it. I can’t open my mouth very much and closing it is out of the question. I seem to have a large lump on the bad side and I am aware there is a disgusting smell and taste in my mouth. Going back to my oral surgeon will take time so should I go back to my Dentist??? Any help will be appreciated as I feel I have been hit with a sledgehammer. Please email me: clairemcarroll@tiscali.co.uk thanks
Okay, so I am getting mine cut out on the 14th, and after reading some of these horror stories, I’m scared to death. I’m really weary about getting put under, as this is the first time I will ever get it done, and it would be just my luck I’d be one of the few people to die from it.
Hi Erica - sorry I scared you, I was just very scared myself yesterday and wanted some help! I was exactly like you - convinced I was not gonna wake up from anaesthetic but I habe researched it until I’m blue in the face and it seems it’s extremely safe nowadays. I spoke to my anaesthetist about my worries and she said they have so many things in place whilst you are under that will tell them if something is going to go wrong or if you are about to regain consciousness that there really is nothing to worry about. Her and her husband are both in the same job and have only ever known a little bit of low blood pressure at the most in 27 years so I felt very encouraged. Talk to them about how you feel, they’re really quite good. It’s day five for me now and I am feeling a little better so it’s on the up now! I was more bothered about waking up so never prepared myself for the pain. Take a week off work and get lots of soup in because you will need it! On the plus side I have lost 7lbs since Wednesday! Good luck!
hey–In Agony I feel ya i lost 10lbs in a week, I think that was the only possitive thing of this situation. If I could go back I would of never would of got them taken out, i had one pulled and the bottom 2 cut out! it was the horriblest and discusting thing in the world, i was out of work for a week, my whole face was so sore. I have a problem sleeping on my back so i sleep on my sad, so every morning one side of my face was in horrible pain! i couldnt eat cuz everything would get stuck in the 2 HUGE holes that i still have! it was so gross, your mouth tastes and smells like rotten flesh! so nasty! lol so yeab other than that im STILL ALIVE! YAY…
i just got my teeth pulled yesterday. ill give you a timeline of what has happend so far.
7:30am - arrive at oral surgeon. begin filling out paperwork.
8:00am - finish paperwork. get brought back to the operation room.
9:10am - get the IV sedation. begin to feel really warm [first time going under] i try to stay awake, but end up passing out.
10:30am - arrive at home with absolutely no recollection of anything that just happend. my mouth hurts, but the doc gave me two loritab to help with the pain. apparently i had to be wheeled to the car, and kept nodding in and out of consciousness on the car ride home. when i get home, i pass out.
12:00pm - wake up in pain, swap the guaze pads, swap the ice packs, and take a loritab. go back to sleep.
2:00pm - same as above.
3:00pm - mom arrives home from work to help my dad with caring for me.
5:00pm - swap guaze again, swap ice again… really bloody still. ran out of the loritab, switching to vicodin now. still in pain, it is lessening, but still there. i look at myself in the mirror, and to my amazement, i am not that swollen.
7:00pm - forced to eat ice cream… i am not hungry at all. and it is a really strange feeling to eat…
9:00pm-12:00am - trying to fall asleep, but i slept too much during the day, so it is really hard to sleep.
DAY TWO [today]
8:00am - wake up, swap the gauze, swap the ice, move off the couch into my bed, take a vicodin.
12:00pm - start to post this message. i took the guaze and ice packs off. i fell okay not great, but ok… i have pretty much clotted up. it hurts to open my mouth wide. and i am still not hungry at all. i am trying to drink powerade… but i am having trouble. my tounge feels really swollen. but whatev. other than that… i am feeling pretty good.
good luck to all those of you yet to have it done.
ill try to keep yall updated on the status of my teeth.
Hi Justremoved - glad to hear you are coping well. I will be interested to hear how you are getting on. My surgery was 10 days ago now and I am still suffering - I’m so glad I never found any of the posts online before I had the surgery. Yesterday when I woke up I was ecstatic because the pain I felt was actually bearable (it has been a long hard time since I had it, just coping with the pain exhausted me) and in the afternoon a HUGE swollen lump developed on my right side - it’s not reachable from inside so I can only conclude it is on my jaw. I got in touch with a Dentist who informed me they would have had to remove most of the bone surrounding my impacted lowers, and alos they probably dislocated my jaw to get them out!!!!!!!!! I am now scared that my jaw has dislocated itself again - my stitches have mostly dissolved and I can only feel them on my left lower so I am wondering why my right side is so agitated. I am really peeved as I’m not so good at dealing with pain, I have two concerts this weekend to go to (I have been looking forward to them all year) and my 15 painkillers a day don’t seem to touch me anymore. I really would be glad to hear of anyone in or previously in, my situation - any reassurance that I will be OK again soon would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks and Hapy Christmas guys xxx
::sighs:: Where do I begin? It is Saturday I had my wisdom teeth out on Tuesday morning. I had total confidence in the oral surgeon who knocked me way out for the procedure (thankfully) so while I was nervous when i went in, I was still confident. I woke up from the surgery and immediately started to cry, I was in no pain I wasn’t sad, I just could not help but cry. I hobbled to the car and rode home or so I hear, I don’t remember at all. Anyways, I already had my Vicodin prescription and took one when I came home–tried to stay ahead of the pain but the vicodin gave me hot flashes and again I could NOT stop crying all day long. When the surgeon called ( i cried as soon as i heard her voice) she said it was the prescription and to take Ibuprofin. My boyfriend took pretty good care of me but when he left that evening for Lacrosse I started feeling really shitty and threw up. since then I have not been sick but have felt really weak because a girl can only handle so much soup/yogurt/milkshakes. What I really need is a big old cheeseburger and its so not an option.
I get canker sores if I so much as eat a chip the wrong way, so the most awful mind numbing pain is coming from the multiple (at least 5!) canker sores at the back of my mouth where I can only assume I was bumped with various dental tools. I cannot express the pain I am feeling because of these sores and the worst part is the extraction sites feel pretty OK and yet i’m still dealing with the aftermath.
UH. I just really needed to vent.
For some people its not that bad, but for me I might as well have made an appointment for the guillotine and arrived on time.
I had my lower wisom tooth extracted on Dec 3rd. The tooth was impacted and cracked. I did it under local anesthetic, the procedure took about half an hour. The surgeon had a hard time yanking out the roots. After the local wore off I had lots of pain, I took a vicodin, and went to bed. The second day I felt much better, the third day the pain all came back. The fourth day I went back to the oral surgeon, and he packed the hole with a medicated gauze, and I felt instantly much better. I have a mild case of dry socket. I went back again the following day, the doc replaced the gauze. Im feeling better today other than a stiff jaw.
Hey i had my 2 lower wisdom teeth pulled out Thursday because my lower left was so impacted and infected. I was put under and woke up in so much pain. I have been in my bed since Thursday and now its Sunday night. I only wake up with the most pain and it doesnt go away for a while. Im feeling a little better but everyone just make sure you keep icing your face as much as possible, keep taking those meds, do NOT drink out of a straw AT ALL, only eat soft foods && just relax as much as possible. I havent moved or done anything since Thursday and I dont plan on it until tomorrow or Tuesday. If anyone has any questions just email me.
I had my wisdom teeth out yesterday morning. top 2 were able to be pulled bottom 2 had to be cut but he tried pulling one of them first realizing it was still in my jawbone =/ Its bothering me a lot today but im managing im pretty drugged up on vicodin but I am feeling okay the pain is bad but i can deal with it I’m hating the soft food diet. It sucks but yeah like I said I’ll manage. xD The stitches are annoying and food likes to get caught in them and I look like a chipmunk
But its better than being in pain forever
I just got all four of mine out on Monday, the 17th. All had to be cut out because none were coming in, I guess they were impacted or whatever it’s called. I pretty much took the pills they gave me as soon as we got the prescription in and home. I guess I’m lucky in the sense that I haven’t been in much pain (either that or I tolerate it well or the drugs are just that amazing), and I’ve only swollen a little. In the times where the pain med’s start to wear off, I understand why they give them to ya. So far in the past two and a half days, I’ve had loads of mashed potatoes, applesauce, some frozen applesauce(that’s strawberry flavored), a McFlurry, and these little cracker things. The crakers probably weren’t a good idea, but I needed something xD
The only thing I’m worried about is my stiches or the area around them getting infected, so I’m keeping an eye out on that, I didn’t wash my mouth out with salt water like the papers said right after, so I’ve been doing that. I also had to get a stich on the side of my lip/mouth, because they said my mouth was too small that they had to split it a little to reach the wisdom teeth, so that probably sucks the most, because I can’t open my mouth as much as I’d like to be able to eat, and because I would feel kinda weird going out with a stich that everyone can see. That and it’s starting to come out, it’s supposed to fall out/come out on it’s own soon.
I’m just hoping my mouth feels better enough to be able to eat some food on Christmas. And my post-op appointment isn’t until the day after Christmas. blah.
I just really want real food.
I had my top right and lower left wisdom teeth removed Tuesday the 18th. My dentist, family physician and ENT are all out of town. I’m experiencing a great deal of pain in my left jaw and ear. I feel like I have a severe ear infection and a sinus infection. I haven’t heard anyone else complain about ear pain and that’s my number 1 complaint. I have trouble with my ears anyway. Neither of my teeth had to be cut out. They had completely broken through and were in perfect alignment with the rest of my teeth so, I am kicking myself for having them removed! I couldn’t have picked a worse time (Christmas holiday). My Loratab 5 takes an hour to kick in and gives me only minor relief for another hour. Tylenol Extra-Strenght EZ Tabs go to work much faster but lasts an hour at the most. I am going to try a BC powder and see if that will help. I don’t think I have a dry socket. I’ve been very easy with my mouth except that I’ve eaten pretty much what I wanted to. It just takes a while. I think I will stop that for a few days. Maybe I’ve been to rough. I missed a day of work but I really should’ve taken the week (couldn’t afford it). The first couple of days I was really naseuous. I don’t know why, I wasn’t put to sleep. Anyway, I just wanted to vent. For anyone out there considering having their’s removed, avoid it if you can. My teeth weren’t crowded or anything. They were just so far back my dentist said I would never be able to clean them properly. I really regret it!
Hey everyone i had all 4 of my impacted wisdom teeth today, and im just really sore but otherwise everything is fine. I got liquid antibiotics and liquid hydrocodone, make sure to take these ON TIME and ull be fine.
I posted on December 21 that I didn’t think I had a dry socket but I was wrong! By Saturday I knew for sure. I had to call my dentist who’s office is going to be closed for more than a week. It was terrible. I had begun to think I had a broken jaw. He packed it and told me to come back in two weeks. It hurt so bad I was shaking. Every one else who’s ever had a dry socket had to go back every 3 or 4 days. I hope my packing holds until it is healed. Most people said they got immediate relief after packing. My dentist told me I’d feel better in 30 minutes and after an hour I’d think to myself, “This is good stuff.”. That didn’t happen. I doubled my Loratab 5, slept for hours and haven’t hurt since. Not bad anyway. The packing tastes terrible but I’m not complaining. I feel 100% better. I’m just really paranoid that my packing will come out before it’s supposed to. I will never have any kind of surgery or procedure like that before a holiday again. My dentist has been out since Friday, December 21 and he won’t be back until Monday, December 31. When you all get to feeling better, you should watch the kids on Youtube. They’re vlogs about wisdom teeth removal are hilarious. This one boy did a vlog about his dry socket. His theme music was ‘Hurt’ by Johnny Cash.
I had all 3 of my wisdom teeth (I only have 3) taken out at 9:00 this morning. They were all impacted, so maybe that’s why I’m in so much pain right now.
Here’s my timeline:
8:30 Arrive at the doctor’s office.
8:45 Called to the back where the nurse began hooking me up to the monitors.
9:00 The doctor came in and put in my IV. He had to butterfly it in my hand because he couldn’t find a vein in my arm. About thirty second after he injected the sedative I passed out. I don’t even remember it.
9:30 I woke up and the nurse told me it was all over. I started crying a little because my head was hurting really bad. She strapped this really neat ice pack around my head and walked me out to the car as I was rather clumsy.
10:30 Arrived at home after stopping at the store, took out the guaze that I had been clamping down on. My bleeding had clotted really well and I haven’t suffered any since. Was forced to eat some applesauce so I could take my Lortab 5. Fell asleep immediately after.
2:00 Woke up and my entire face was in pain from my jaw to behind my eyes to my forehead.
4:00 Took another Lortab, though I’ve decided that they don’t do much. Tried to nap again.
10:00 Entire head, face, and jaw aching. Took another Lortab. It’s now almost 11:00 and I still don’t feel as though it’s helped.
I don’t understand why the hydrocodone and acetaminophen in the Lortab isn’t helping my pain any. I’ve been replacing the ice packs in my head thing all day and that’s kept the swelling down. However, I haven’t been able to eat anything besides the applesauce or drink much because I can barely open my jaw. Hopefully I’ll be able to avoid a dry socket… that’s my worst fear from this thing.
i had all 4 pulled yesterday. and they did not put me out! it took 3 hours ,but didnt realy hurt all that much 2 were inpacked and the others rolled out. i will say that i will never look at pliers the same. when i got home the pain started to set in . my jaw , my ears well every thing from the neck up. today i feel alot better the meds are doing the trick.
Some of you are very unlucky to have surgeons who are less than concerned with what your recovery will be like! I’m from the UK, so the fact I had mine taken out in a private clinic is unusual, considering we have a free National Health Service.
When I arrived (19th december at 7pm) I talked to the surgeon and he said he would seriously advise against having all 4 of my teeth removed at once, because of the pain involved in the recovery. Being only 6 days til Christmas, I agreed and opted for the just the right hand side (where the lower one was causing decay on the adjacent molar). Apparently it is easier for a right-handed surgeon to access the right side of your mouth, so that probably helped!
The sedationist took my blood pressure before I was sedated and I nearly had a heart attack when I saw it was 178/80 (I’m only 22!). Apparently that was normal because of the nerves/stress, but by that point, I just wanted to be sedated and fast!!! A few seconds after that miracle juice went into my arm, I became very unconcerned about what was happening to me, although I can remember feeling a few pushes and pulls (my eyes were covered so I couldn’t see).
After half an hour it was over and I was acting a little drunk from the sedation, so good thing my mum was there to help me home! That night, I couldn’t sleep, because it was too uncomfortable, and the pain was steadily increasing as the painkillers weren’t built up enough yet. I found that Ibuprofen works nicely to stem the pain, but paracetamol does little. The swelling/pain was worst between 24-48 hours and at that point I was very happy it was only on one side!!! Admittedly, I did take some of my mum’s codeine once to sleep, but mainly managed on the lesser non-prescription painkillers. Salt washes are essential and don’t try too hard to clean your teeth on that side, or you start bleeding again like I did!
I couldn’t chew, so it was soups and things for a few days, but I was just about recovered enough to eat a full turkey dinner on Christmas day (day 6) without too much pain. I did it by breaking up food with my tongue against the teeth on my left side (thank goodness the vegetables were overcooked!). After 2 weeks, there’s still a small lump and 2 gaping holes, but I can finally pronounce ’s’ properly again.
Ooh, sorry, just scanned that post for Britishims and realised that I wrote ‘mum’ instead of ‘mom’. Sorry if that is too difficult for you to understand! Hehe…
Took all four out using local anesthetia yesterday evening. The bottoms needed drilling. Needed stiches on all sites. Does that mean sinus cavity was exposed? Been about 20 hours, bleeding slowed but has not stopped. Could I use tea bags on the sites?
My two lower WT are partially erupted and are impacted and the top ones, I believe are Impacted, but haven’t come through at all. My dentist told me I should get all 4 removed! I’ve never had any sort of surgery or major procedure done before. Why do I need to get all of them removed if I’ve only had problems with one of them?? Aside from that, it’s not cheap! My last jobs insurance barely covered it and the Dr’s office told me they wanted $1200 upfront!!! I couldn’t believe it! I have new insurance now, but I’m still worried that it will cost too much. Has anyone else had problems like that? Any advice? One or all four?
Thanks!
Kellie
I had mine removed, all four, on December 31st. That way my insurance from 2007 covered the deal.
Kellie, I suggest you call around to various oral suregeons - mine asked for 25% up front and then will reimburse me or bill me for the balance depending on how much gets covered by my insurance. Be aware also that some things may be covered by your major medical insurance and so you may not really pay much of anything when it all comes out on the other side.
My suggestion is that you heed your dentist’s advice and get them out. The partially erupted ones are going to be the most likely to get infected, especially since they are the bottom ones, but the top ones could get cysts/infections as well since they aren’t fully and normally erupted (I did a LOT of research before mine came out!) I also recommend general anesthesia, since local might wear off partway through and they can’t give you more if it does. Ouch. I have a friend who got her’s pulled under local and it DID wear off. What a nigtmare!
I still can’t eat solid food. I tried a bagel this morning and chewing it set off my jaw muscles so much that I’ve got a full blown migraine now, though my teeth are healed enough that I could theoretically eat the bagel if I was careful and cleaned well after. On the upside I also have lost 10 lbs, which I really should have gotten rid of in any case, so I’m pleased about that. On the down side it’s been over a week and I still feel like I should be home in bed, not at work in front of a computer.
Sigh….
ugh okay….so I just got all 4 of my wisdom teeth out on Monday, it’s early Wednesday morning. First of all, the day after my surgery (Tuesday), I completely lost my voice and I cannot stop coughing. Worst time EVER to get a random cold right? I have a feeling me coughing is delaying the healing of my jaw…..my face hurts SO much. I’m on a mild version of Percocet for the pain, they worked great until today….I am so swollen and I can barely open or close my jaw. I’m going to call my oral surgeon- but I have no voice! I just feel so screwed…I cannot wait for this all to be over.
I had the lower rioght Wisdom tooth pulled Saturday afternoon After pickjing up the phone book and starting finding sanyone who was open. Well I did choose a good one. Had to drive an Hr from my work to see him. Took 10 mins to numb me up. 5 mins to pull wisdom tooth. cost a whole $440 ( no dental insurance). Got amoxacillian, Vicodin ( Woohoooooo). Tell ya what thought WalGreens was not fast enough to fill it. Went to walGreens in Agony. Smacking the counter. Pharamicist asked me if I wanted to take one now I said Hell yea. Well we are goign on day 3 hard to open mouth. HAve been allpying Ice Packs since Saturday. Still hard to swallow. But am going back to work on Tuesday. Wish I can get some more Vicidon So I can eat it like candy to deal with the pain.
i got all four taken out today. Every thing is fine except for my bottom lip its so numb and is killing me. I cant eat cold food even though im supposed to because it really stings. Im actually on my 6th bowl of soup.
I got all three removed three days ago. Mine were all impacted and the dentist actually had to drill away some of my jawBONE to get to one. Day one wasnt too bad….I bled for about ten hours after surgery..Doc gave me meperidine (like mephragan) and hydrocodone (like vicoden) The meperdine kept me sleeping for most of day one. there was pain..but I slept alot. Day two..woke up feeling fine…then, pain got bad. My face swoll HUGE and bruised a little. Took hydrocodones all day. Felt sick, because I couldnt eat. Finally, I drank chicken broth with bread in it. Helped me feel so much better! Day three, woke up today and swelling has gone down some and pain is very almost gone. Still a little sore. Been rinsing with salt water rinse and brushing teeth twice a day. Still on pain meds and still HUNGRY! I have to start school in two days so I hope I can..have to work tomorrow..hope I feel up to it. Tired of this..ready for it to be done. Its painful but not as bad as I thought. I want real food and no more pain. I am also terrified everytime I swallow, eat, brush, rinse, or anything of dry socket. I have heard the horrow stories and do not want it!
Hello,
I Had 2 WT removed along with 15 other teeth due to bone loss. I was so terrified I was making myself sick from fear of dying while I had it done. My Dentist have me Halcion for the procedure. I took two pills a hour before and 2 when I got to the office. I wasn’t supposed to be able to remember ever being in the office once it was over .I cant remember my husband driving me there, or leaving, but I remember everything that happen in the office. I felt no pain and was so relaxed he could have taken out my heart and I wouldn’t have cared. I was in the office for 4 hours.
I came home and took 2 lortabs every 3 hours and by evening I was up, eating pudding, drinking water and yes, talking on the phone.I had partial dentures put into my mouth before I left the office.
Day 2 I went into the office and he checked my my mouth over. I had no bleeding and very little swelling. No more pain pills! I went to town and bought groceries!
Day 3 is today.Gums are of course sore, and very little swelling in my face. I was able to slowly chew chex mix cereals !Hoping for a big juicy steak in the next few weeks!I cant wait!
After the pain I have gone through for the past few years with infected teeth and gums, THIS WAS A BREEZE!!!
I am having my wisdom teeth (all four) out TOMORROW! sooo nervous because I have never been under general anaesthetic before - a tip for those of you waiting for WT removal do NOT look on youtube at the procedure (i don’t know why i did, what an idiot!)… i should be ok as all four have partly pushed through the gum, so hopefully no drilling etc. will write on here again when im drugged up and say how wonderful it all was
x
I had all four wisdom teeth out yesterday at 9:00 AM with just local anesthetic, and I was out the door in half an hour. All four were partial bony impactions, but all had broke through the gum and were coming in straight. At my consultation they had told me it ould be complicated, with a lot of drilling, and recommended general anesthesia. I said no way, because dental procedures don’t scare me. Frankly, going under made me more apprehensive than getting my teeth yanked. Anyway, the surgeon was extremely skilled and I felt no pain, only pressure. I didn’t even know the first tooth was out until she told me and I started laughing, which was hilarious since my tongue was numb and I sounded like an idiot. It took less than half an hour start to finish, and the first ten minutes involved Novocaine shots and waiting for it to work. I was amazed at how easy it was!
No stitches, just four gaping holes in my mouth, which seemed a little strange to me. If keeping the blood clot is essential, wouldn’t you want to close the wound? Anyway, the bleeding subsided within hours, and I have had only very minimal pain. No swelling whatsoever. My boyfriend can’t believe that I didn’t get my prescription for Vicodin filled, but I have almost no pain at all right now, just a little soreness and stiffness in my jaw. I’m surprised at how normal I feel and how quickly I’m recovering, and part of that I attribute to not going under.
I’m living off of soup, pudding, yogurt, Slim-Fast, Odwalla juice and water right now. I can’t have oatmeal, rice, any fruit with little seeds like berries, and pretty much every thing else I would ever want to eat is off limits. My sweetheart of a boyfriend has been taking care of me and bought movies, etc., but honestly, there’s not much for him to do! I’m not going to school/work today simply because I got no sleep last night since I was told to sleep propped up and that’s really uncomfortable for me.
If you’re anxious about getting your wisdom teeth removed, don’t be. The surgeon will do everything in his or her power to make you as comfortable as possible and as long as you follow post-op instructions, healing should be uncomplicated. I had pericoronitis around one of my wisdom teeth a couple weeks ago and that was infinitely more painful (and dangerous to my health) than having the teeth removed. Now that they’re out, I’ll never have to worry about that kind of infection again, and my teeth will stop crowding. So please, don’t be scared!
those irritating sockets! Had my wisdom tooth extracted and two molars yesterday, the procedure itself was not too bad, I tend to cope with pain quite well, the two molars came out easily with little to no difficulty. As for the lower right impacted wisdom tooth well that was a different story. The oral surgeon spent at least 30 minutes drilling and cracking the stubborn tooth until eventually it comes flying out in pieces and then the assistant shoots me in the face with the saline spray, which startled me and brought me back to reality. He then proceeds to use 3 stiches to close the flaps of gum which used to house that troublesome tooth. During this time he gives me four ampules of local to numb the area which worked to some extent but could feel pain when he was drilling. So I get discharged with anti-biotics, pain medication and mouthwash. Had some gauze in my mouth but they told me to remove it after 10 minutes. Got home and as the local is wearing off I am starting to feel the pain so pop some pain medication, offers some relief but not complete
so I take a sip of water to get the medication down also have an anti-biotic. Go and lay down on the bed for a rest after that stressful morning. Wake up a few hours later in worse pain and bleeding, the bleeding isn’t much but it is there I can see it when I remove the saliva with kitchen towel. I am salivating alot so that is another annoyance! It is now 24 hours since the procedure and I am still bleeding somewhat, face is swollen and mouth tastes awful, have had about 3 sips of water as jaw is so painful. I am hungry and don’ t like taking all there tablets on an empty stomach. So I am going to try and have a glass of water and a bowl of cold wheatabix, the more sloppy the food is the easier to get down I imagine. Throbbing pain and horrid taste I suppose that is because I can not bring myself round to brush my teeth yet! Stiches have made my gums/sockets feel very tight so adding to the pain. I hope it gets better soon I don’t like to be in pain and have university on Monday which I wish to attend. Hope everyone recovers speedily and without pain. Take care stay safe.
I GOT ALL 4 OF MINE OUT 3 DAYS AGO AND NOW MY GUM STINGS! oh well. and u can get lost who have just had 2 out, friggin babies TRY GETTING 4 IMPACTED ONES OUT!
losers….
I had mine puled in the dentists chair and the top one was impacted. I went home, felt fine until the numbness wore off, ate a few spoonfuls of soup and some icecream- all I could mange, the next day my jaw feels slightly bruised I have some yoghurt and later manage more solid foods and then the next day I’m back to normal.
I had all three (only had 3) of my impacted wisdom teeth pulled on Tuesday, today is Friday. The day of the extraction, I felt barely any pain and was completely numb. The following day, my face swelled up badly, had really bad pain. I followed the rinsing and medication instructions and put ice on it. The 3rd day, the pain got worse and the swelling remained the same. I started applying some heat to my jaw because it helped me open my mouth wide enough to fit a baby sized spoon in for food. It is now the 4th day and my left side hurts so badly. The meds don’t even help at all, only for like an hour or so. I am getting headaches and my ear aches too. I sleep in 2 hour increments. I called the dentist today and he just called in a penicillen prescription for me until our follow up visit. I’m guessing I have an infection or something, especially since I feel a tinyball sized lump on the jaw where my tooth was extracted. I hope this helps someone. My pain is ridiculous.
THanks and best of luck everyone,
I’ve broken a total of 3 bones in my body, had two surgeries (not counting the wisdom teeth extraction) and never really needed pain pills for any of it.
But having all 4 wisdom teeth extracted (two impacted - gums sliced, teeth chopped into little bits and stitches) was something I couldn’t handle. I have never been in such agony before.
I’m working on day 7, and only now has the pain subsided. Two days ago, 3 ibuprofen 1 tylenol and 2 vicodin wouldn’t even take the edge off. And I didn’t even have dry socket.
I am so glad it’s over. Bah humbug and good riddance to those evil little teeth. I hope they rot in tooth hell.
I’m 33 years old. On April 4,2008 I had my two lower impacted and horizontal WT cut out along with two other “bad” teeth on the right side, so 3 on one and 1 on the other. The first day is a bit of a blur to me other than being in pain, bloody gauze, and soup that my mother made me eat! I slept most of that day, and most of the next. When I’d wake up after a few hours, it was more pain killers and back out. I don’t remember much. This is now day 5 and I’m still in alot of pain. I have tried to eat a little bit of normal food, but it’s just not hapening. I’m sick of soup and eggs, and resorted to ice cream today. I think i’ve lost about 5 pounds. My biggest worry now is my stitches and the fear of dry socket. Surprisingly, my left side hurts worse where only one tooth was extracted. The stitches feel very odd and I worry they will come out. My face is still quite swollen. This was done on Friday and by Monday I wasn’t ready for work. I’m at work now, but not feeling too great. I have 800 mg Motrin, but it still makes me groggy and it’s hard to work. I may take another day off. I’m ready for this to all subside. I don’t EVER want to do it again. I hope my top ones do right so I don’t have to do this ever again. Good luck to those of you who are waiting..I know it will be worth it in the long run, but it sure as hell hurts right now!
Im getting my lower left WT removed 2 days from now. I’ve never been put under before and after reading some of these horror stories im freakin terrified!!
Hey,
Had my bottom left impacted wisdom tooth removed on Friday. Felt totally fine until the pain meds and numbing stuff wore off! I can take pain, I am not a wuss, but oh my! This is most pain I have ever been in!!! They must have had to cut and pull and chop and pull some more because my face is the size of a house and the brusing is terrible! The pain on Saturday was so bad I was sick about 10 times, and then went into shock. I was shaking and sweating and swearing!
It is now day 4, and the pain is still here. Its like an annoying ache. I can feel the stitches and they feel really tight. The inside of my mouth is swollen so much and my jaw aches. I know they must have cut into my jaw to take it out.
I just want to know when the pain will stop and the swelling will go down! I dodn’t realise it would be so bad and I would have to take time off work. There is no way I can go to work as I have to rinse 4 times a day, take meds that space me out and I can’t even eat proper food yet!
I hope this will all be worth it! Good luck to those who are still recovering and to those who are about to have them out! I wish you all well!
I had all 4 wisdom teeth out a week ago today. all 4 were impacted. 3 of them have healed fine, and the one left bottom incision is killing me! for those who said you had almost no pain… you are so lucky. this has been the worst week of my life! i believe i’ve developed an infection in the incision which has not healed, and the infection has moved to my ears, and possibly my throat. i go to the doctor again today so we shall see where this goes.
I have the worst story yet. I had my one left bottom wisdom pulled out two weeks ago April 22. I am still in pain. On percocet everday. It was my first time meeting this dentist. He took an x-ray and said that I had an abcess he then begin to numb my mouth with novocaine. He removed the tooth. No pre-antibiotics or anything to clear the infection. The dentist told me to eat Chinese food on the first night and pasta. 2 days of horrible pain where I couldn’t go to work.
Friday April 25…I go back to the dentist. He said it was filthy down there and I wasn’t taking care of it like he said. I told him that I was taking my antibiotics as prescribed and eating soft foods. He told me I should not still be eating soft foods. I should be back to my normal diet. Gave me a script for percocet and out the door he sent me. That was another $35.00 visit.
Monday April 28…middle of night I go to the emergency room, I am still in dying pain. They shoot the spot with Lidocaine and give me another script for more percocet.
Tuesday April 29…I go to work, in pain. Call the dentist. Tell him to cancel my appointment, because I can’t wait until may 12 for the next visit and I been researching the internet and other people said they were prescribed antibiotics first before their teeth were pulled. He said it wasn’t normal to be prescribed antibiotics first before a tooth is pulled. Also said if I would rather listen and research on the internet and listen to people I don’t know then to come to him thats fine. Then I asked him why am I still in this much pain after a week. He tells me :” need to get on my needs and pray to God as to why he designed my body to have this pain’.
I have now filed a complaint against him with the State of Maryland Board of Dental examiners. I am also waiting to go to a different dentist within the next week. I am still in pain two weeks later and still have bleeding. If this new dentist tells me I have permanent damage. I will be bringing a lawsuit against that dentist.
I’ve had all 4 impacted wisdoms out and am on day 5. General anaesthetic, no pain initially. Took paracetamol 3 times a day and ibuprofen 2 times a day. My face swelled up almost immediately (hence why I got signed off work for a week). I was concerned that the sockets bled on the day of the operation and the day following, but the bleeding was very minor and seems to have stopped. I bit down on gauze for 20 mins on the evening of the operation. On the mornings of day 4 and 5, woke up with jaw-ache. Nothing unbearable, but enough to prevent a lay-in.
I was concerned that I can still see gaping holes in my gums, spanned by dissolvable stitches, but from what I’ve read, this is normal for up to 2 weeks.
I continue to rinse my mouth out with salt water, at least 3 times daily to prevent infection. It was because of an infection behind my wisdom teeth last year that made my dentist recommend their removal. That was a pain I’m not keen to relive.
Still chewing carefully using my front teeth, but can’t wait to tuck into real food soon.
I’m 15. I just had all four of my widom teeth removed yesterday and I don’t even remember walking into the office. I wasn’t put under for it, but i was put on this medicine called Halcion and I was also given laughing gas. My mom said that I was acting all silly in the waiting room and that I was being really loud and stuff. But of course, I don’t recall any of this. She said that I had the hiccups really bad and I have always had this little remedy that if you hold your breath for 30 seconds, swallow three times, then say hippopotomus, then your hiccups will go away. So apparantly I blurted out that remedy in the waiting room and did it, but it didn’t work. So then my mom gave me some of her drink and i started guzzling it, and shouted “THEY’RE GONE!!!” Hahahaha! I wish I could remember all this. But anyway, it’s day two and I’ve done nothing but but sleep for the past day and a half. My stitches feel funny and it hurts to eat anything but pudding or yogurt. But my stithes come out Thursday so hopefully this will all be done and over with soon.
I just got my wisdom teeth pulled almost a week ago. Not too bad. I bleed for just a few hours after. But my only concern now is that I feel sharp edges on the sides of my Gums (by my tounge). Its like my bone trying to cut through. Does anyone know anything about this?? It hurts. Help is appreciated!
thanks!
Thinking it would be smart to think ahead in life I decided to pull out my 1/2 erupted, impacted, hooked wisdom tooth before it caused trouble.
Attempt after attempt of twisting and sawing, the pieces came out, while in the chair I thought it would be funny to say to the struggling Dentist that “I’m just to strong”, well the assistant laughed and she [Dentist] gave me a look that spoke the words “you won’t be laughing in a few hours”. Then after it was out I thanked her and tried to understand the heavily accented instructions. Don’t get me wrong she was extremely nice, I’m just incredibly pi**ed off at the moment with the pain, she was right.
I’m trying to take it like a man, but iv’e got the paracetamol which I am going to take after this right next to me, I give in!
Anyway, I have found that my lip [the bit where the top meets the bottom] really hurts and is red from being stretched by the ‘lacerater?’.
Bleeding is still very apparent after 4 hours, so I hope that stops ASAP
Pain is bearable..but seems to be fluctuating from, “I’ll be fine, the worst is over” to “OMG shoot me please”…
Anyway, time to take my pain ‘reduction’ pill…
I just recently had all four wisdom teeth out. When I came home it was the worst pain I have ever felt in my life! I managed to eat some yogurt though. The next day I started throwing up constantly, so I had to go off the antibiotics because they were making me sick. My left cheek was swelled up like a grapefruit! Ever since then I have not been hungry at all and my cheek is still swelled up after the fourth day. I really wish that could stop feeling sick and get an appetite. Has anyone else felt this way except me about not wanting to eat anything! How long is this going to last!
So I got my WT pulled on Friday august 29th.
All 4 impacted WT. The procedure was easy, but the recovery def sucks
The painkillers I was given made me throw up every 3 hours like clockwork. That was not fun at all. So then i stopped taking my painkillers and stuck with motrin. Only being able to eat non solid food is very hard. The swelling was minimal but the worst on day 3. And it is day 4 now.
Nothing else has really bugged me except for I am getting this really nasty kinda bitter taste in my mouth. It started off as not too bad but now it’s almost unbearable. It is so strong that it makes me wanna vomit. Have any of you guys experienced this? If so how long foes it last and or what can I do to get right of it?
hey im being referred to the hospital to have TEN teeth extracted including four wisdom teth absolutlely terified had a fear of dentists ever since childhood when a dentist didint numb me properly when performing deep filling and now reading some of these horror stories more scared then ever my main concern is eating as i will have no back teeth for chewing am a recovering anorexic and weigh 8 stone for my 5 ft 10 height so cant really afford to lose much weight
I’m having my wisdom teeth out next Thursday and I made the mistake of reading all of these and watching the procedure on youtube. I’m nothing short of terrified, plus im scheduled to work 5 days in a row the day after I get them out. Do you think I’ll be able to do this?
