I'm surprised you went with the more expensive option.

I really don't see what significant difference there is between these two options so I would have went with the cheaper one.

When it comes to traveling (and especially long haul flying) I always choose the most convienent option. I stay at hotels as close as possible to where I want to be even if it costs me more. I rent cars from my local Hertz location because I don't want to go get a car 20 miles away just to drive it back to that location later. And when it comes to flying, after 50,000 miles in the air in only 9 months last year, convience comes out on top. I've seen the inside of way to many airports to want a long layover, and I certainly don't want to stop and risk getting stuck in one unless I absolutely have to.

When my wife and I were coming back from our honeymoon we did something similar. We upgraded our seats on check-in to the equivalent of business class for an extra $90. That $90 was a good investment since we got extra leg room, got off the plane quicker and were generally more comfortable. Sometimes the extra cost is worth it for the convenience.
