Your Take: What Are You Saving For?

Ceramic Piggy BankLast week everyone got fired up discussing the health care bill, which is good because open discussion is the soul of a democracy, but this week we’re going to go in a different direction. This week I want to know what you’re saving goals are for this year, a year after one of the worst recessions we’ve seen in a long time, and how you hope to accomplish it. It’s going to be hard to meet those goals, certainly harder than in the economically prosperous years, but the key to meeting your goals is to set them in the first place.

To help you along, SmartyPig has offered to give away four $50 SmartyPig gift cards to four lucky commenters. The gift cards can only be used to start a SmartyPig goal or fund an existing one. Winners will be sent a physical gift card in the mail, which they can redeem at anytime. So while you don’t need to have an account to win, you might need one to redeem the gift card.

If you want to learn more about their service, check out my SmartyPig review.

Contest ends at noon next Friday, April 9th, void where prohibited. Good luck!

We’re just getting started with this whole “saving” thing and I couldn’t be more excited about how easy smartypig is! It’s been fun to see our savings grow and to see us getting closer to our vacation fund goal. It gives me hope for saving for larger things 🙂

I’m saving for three things: (1) Christmas. (2) To send my girlfriend to a conference she wants to attend this summer. And (3) to put some extra money toward paying down my credit card debt. I’ll probably create some new goals soon. SmartyPig Rules!

  15. Christie says:

My 2010 New Year’s resolution was to become more financially aware/fiscally responsible. I stumbled onto Smarty Pig after researching savings accounts for the best interest rates. I started the account to save for the down payment on the house I was looking to buy. Now I’m saving for some upcoming travel. Soon, I’ll start saving for the holidays. I much prefer receiving interest over paying it.

  16. Janiece says:

My goal through my SmartyPig account is for a week long trip to Albuquerque next fall to attend the Balloon Fiesta. Tough times have put this much desired trip on hold and although not a far-fetched goal, it is one that might not happen without the support and help of SmartyPig.

I’m saving for a short term and long term goal:

    1) Short Term: I’m headed to graduate school in the fall to start on the path toward a better career.

    2) Long Term: I’m saving for my first house. I’m 26 and have been renting for what seems like forever. I’m ready to actually start creating wealth by buying, as scary as entering the housing market may be. Sadly, I’m a long way off from this goal, and I’m counting on SmartyPig to help me get there!

  25. Nicole F says:

My short term savings goal is to take a cruise with my best friend. It will be our first cruise for both of us, and we plan to buy a last minute ticket to get the best price.

My long term savings goal is to have 6 months expenses in savings.
