Your Take: What Project Have You Been Putting Off?

I normally am not a fan of gift cards because they force you to spend them at a particular store, I instead think that cash can still be a classy gift if presented in the right way (and who doesn’t like cash?). However, if I were to get a gift card, there are few stores I’d rather get a card for than Home Depot because, like all other homeowners, I seem to be one project away from being “finished.” There’s always something I can get there and Home Depot doesn’t play any of the BS gift card games like devaluing the card if you don’t use it or charging annual fees.
From now until February 28th, The Home Depot is offering a special commemorative “Dream” gift card to celebrate and support the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Home Depot will donate 5% of each “Dream” gift card to support the Center for Civil and Human Rights, up to $1 million dollars. The monies will then be used to build a permanent home for Dr. Martin Luther King’s history papers, a collection of over 10,000 items consisting of his personal writings and papers. The collection includes over 7,000 handwritten notes from 1946 to 1968 and include drafts of his “I Have a Dream” speech, his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail,” other theological writings and his Nobel Peace Prize addresses.
You can buy these cards at a store or online at Home Depot.
To help get the word out, Home Depot is giving Bargaineering readers an opportunity to win a $50 gift card! To win, all you have to do is leave a comment telling us what is the one project in your house that you keep putting off? You all know what I mean, it’s the toilet with the leaky tank, the door that doesn’t close all the way, the faucet that continually drips. What is the one project you keep putting off? For me, it’s my closet door that doesn’t close all the way. My closet won’t close because it’s just too big. I’ve sanded it a little but I need to get the electric sander out and really go to town before the stupid thing will close. I haven’t done it yet because my office is carpeted and I just don’t want to deal with both sanding and cleaning up.
So, what project have you been putting off? Tell us all by noon on February 13th and you will be in the running. I will randomly select one commenter to receive the $50 Home Depot “Dream” gift card. Void where prohibited. Good luck!
The contest is now closed, the lucky winner is “tom rundel” (Comment ID 296068) who just put in a wood stove, I hope this $50 gift card from Home Depot can help complete the look!

LOL! What project HAVEN’T we been putting off?
We NEED:
…to repair some badly installed tiles in a kitchen;
…to install wooden blinds in the heater-like front windows before the hot weather comes in;
…to get someone who knows what he’s doing to rehang a front door and install weatherstripping so water doesn’t pour in under the door during a hard rain;
…to fix or replace the dishwasher;
…to install a room air conditioner in a bedroom.
We WANT:
…to replace the heater-like front windows with double-paned windows;
…to replace all the rest of the windows, ditto;
…to repair a beautiful old door that someone’s dog scratched up;
…to replace three sliding doors, one of which does not latch at all and one of which doesn’t lock, with new French doors with double-paned lights;
…to install security doors that don’t look like prison bars on four doors.
Not knowing whether either of us will be employed in a month or two, we’re putting off both NEEDs and WANTs. We just can’t risk spending money that may be needed for food.
Entering Mom, so I can go get her some of the MANY lil ol “Honey Do” projects that need to be done…

I take great pride in my lovely deck full of glorious flowers–over the summer my apartment complex did some work on my deck and locked my plants inside while we were away–when we returned my plants had all died. Some had been with me for more than ten years– I miss them, and would use the Home Depot card to replace them.
One project is to replace the leaky faucet in the bathroom.

I’ve been putting off painting and carpeting my youngest son’s room due to lack of extra money. This would be a great win, as we have already picked out the colors of both paint and carpet. Thank you for offering this for your readers.
I have truly been putting off a painting project. My dining room needs to be painted. (like for the last two years…). I could use the gift card to purchase some paintbrushes, rollers, etc. Thanks for this chance.
We have had a leaky faucet for sometime. I use a heavey washcloth as a tourniquet to keep the water from spilling all over. Your great giveaway reminded me of the importance of fixing this so as to remove the pan from under the sink and get back to more important things.
I have been putting off painting the laundry room.

new carpet in the playroom as well as elsewhere.

I’ve been putting off replacing the kitchen sink and faucet. It’s a terrible combo and the sprayer doesn’t even work. Plus, my daughter just painted some of our carpet. So special…
We bought our home four years ago and have been putting off re-doing the kitchen cabinets. They’re not in good shape and re-painting them didn’t do a bit of good.
It would be so great to modernize them… I think they’re originals from the 50s.
My bathroom floor really needs new tile and this would certainly help. Thanks for having the contest!
4 years ago I moved into a townhouse that had not been updated in years. In the kitchen they had carpeting that was so greasy you could actually slide across it!!!I ripped it out BEFORE I moved in. I have been walking on the plywood for 4 years and desperately NEED a floor but something always comes up that the money has to be spent on..either medical bills or car repairs on a 10 year old car!!! I’ve been putting off finishing my living room. The walls are just so bare. I need to get them done.
When I first painted, I accidently got some on the ceiling. I’ve always wanted to take the effort to find a matching white and then touch it up, but I haven’t gotten motivated to do such on my budget. The $50 will be a great motivator!
I also need to touch up the parts of my wall that my bunnies have chewed on, so I need to get some spackle and matching paint for that too!
